David Shenton has established an enviable reputation as a pianist, violinist, composer and arranger. He is recognized internationally as an expert musical director and accompanist.

As a pianist David works regularly with noted singers, in particular those appearing in current Broadway shows. In 2006, he became the official accompanist and musical director for the charitable organizations Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS & Help is on the Way Today. Recently, David has worked closely with award-winning performers Christian Hoff, (Jersey Boys), Wilson Jermaine-Heredia (Rent), John Treacy Egan (The Producers, The Little Mermaid), Jo Anne Worley (Thoroughly Modern Millie), Luba Mason (Chicago, Jekyll & Hyde), Ann Crumb (Aspects of Love, Anna Karenina), Laura Osnes (Grease), Jose Llana (Spelling Bee) to name just a few. In 2008, David was chosen to play for the entire Broadway casts of Jersey Boys, The Little Mermaid, The Color Purple, The Producers, A Chorus Line, Young Frankenstein and Phantom of the Opera.

David has recently performed at leading New York venues including Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater, Kaplan Penthouse and Rubenstein Atrium, Feinstein’s, Birdland, Joe’s Pub, Merkin Hall, Carnegie Hall, etc. At the 2800 seat St. George Theatre, David was thrilled to have been asked to be the opening act for the legendary Tony Bennett.

As a violinist, David has performed frequently as a soloist with leading orchestras including The English Camerata, London Virtuosi, The East of England Orchestra and the New London Soloists Orchestra. David is currently in the process of performing several recitals of Classical and Romantic violin sonatas in the Tri-State area.

David is the composer of five musicals (Tart, Barsong, Creole Nights, Anna the Storyteller and Avarice), all of which have premièred in New York. As a composer for film, David wrote his first film score for Franc Reyes’ drama, Beauty, which was screened at the Miami Short Film Festival (Florida), NALIP Festival (New York) and the Westwood International Film Festival (Los Angeles) to great critical acclaim.

A prolific arranger, David has worked for Abbey Road & CTS Studios (London), on Hollywood movies, West End & Broadway shows and for Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. He orchestrated the music for The Snowman by Howard Blake, which has run in the West End of London since 1998. In 2008, David began a close working relationship with composer Alexander Bermange and world-renowned lyricist Wolfgang Adenberg. David orchestrated the music for the hit German show, König Drosselbart, and has been asked to go to Germany this spring to orchestrate and arrange the music for their new show, Sleeping Beauty.

David has recorded for the Velvetone, Vocalion, LongTones, LoFish and Jazz Gold record labels. His CDs are widely available and his solo piano CD, Sunnyside Blues, has won high acclaim as well as several awards. David’s recent awards include the prestigious Back Stage Bistro Award for ‘Best Piano Player/Entertainer in New York’ and runner-up in the Billboard Magazine/Disc Makers Independent Music World Series competition.

David teaches extensively and, as a coach and accompanist, has recently been added to the faculties of New York University, The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and Andy Anselmo’s Singer’s Forum. Born in Rotherham (South Yorkshire), England in 1975, David studied violin and piano at The Royal College of Music, London from where he graduated with the highest honours. He is dually represented in the USA by Whitehurst Media, Inc., and Daniel Wallace Entertainment, Ltd, and in Germany by Whale Songs, Inc.
